Tips for Selecting a TV - Ashland, OH Homeowners | Haring Realty

Whether you prefer to watch sitcoms, reality TV, or documentaries, you can probably agree that a good TV is essential for home entertainment. But with so many different brands and models out there, how do you know which TV to choose? In celebration of World Television Day on November 21st, our REALTORS® are excited to weigh in on this topic. Below, they'll offer some top tips to help you pick the best TV for your Ashland home.

  • Make Sure There's Space at Eye Level
Before you start shopping for a TV, make sure you know exactly where you want to put it. You can't really pick an appropriately sized TV until you have a location confirmed. Wherever you decide to put your TV, make sure it is at eye level. You don't want to constantly look up or down to see the TV, as that can strain your eyes and neck.

  • Measure Your Viewing Distance
Bigger is not always better when it comes to TVs. A large TV may look overwhelming in a small room or in a room where you have to sit fairly close to the TV. A good way to determine what size TV you need is to measure the distance between your viewing spot and where you'll mount the TV. Divide the distance in inches by 1.6 for your ideal TV size.

For example, if your viewing distance is 120 inches (10 feet), you should look for a TV that measures approximately 75 inches.

  • Consider the Resolution
Resolution refers to the number of pixels that make up the screen. The higher the resolution, the sharper the image on the TV will be. Most TV brands list the resolution in pixels and assign a term to it. You'll see Full HD, Ultra HD, and 8K TVs. Full HD is the lowest resolution, and 8K is the highest. Ultra HD is somewhere in between.

While a Full HD television should be perfectly suitable in most cases, you may want a higher resolution if you watch a lot of sports or play games on your TV. Just keep in mind that 8K TVs can cost significantly more than other types.

  • If Gaming, Consider the Refresh Rate
The refresh rate is the speed at which a TV can cycle through new frames. Most mid- to high-end TVs now have refresh rates of 120Hz, which makes the gaming experience more fluid.

If you're a really serious gamer, you may want to look for a TV offering a refresh rate of 144Hz for optimal play.

  • Make Sure You Have Enough HDMI Ports
HDMI ports are used to connect various devices to your TV. Everything from streaming devices to gaming consoles requires an HDMI port.

Some less-expensive TVs only have two HDMI ports, which may be enough if you don't connect many outside devices. However, if you have multiple devices and gaming consoles, it's worth looking for a TV with more HDMI ports. If possible, choose a TV with some ports on each side. This will make setting up your consoles around the TV easier without so many long, winding cables.

Whether you're buying your first TV or replacing an old one, these tips should help you pick the perfect one. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're still looking for Ashland homes for sale. We'll help you find a cozy place to watch TV at night.
