House Styles - Homebuyers - Haring Realty

You've done your financial homework. You've saved money and made sure your credit score is healthy. Now it's time to go house shopping! How exciting is that? But before you reach out to our REALTORS® to tour available Bucyrus homes for sale, have you decided what you want? If you haven't given much thought to architectural options, you may want to consider some of the most prevalent styles in the area.

  • Colonial
Characterized by their grand, two-story size, these probably aren't the best choice for empty nesters. But if you have or plan to have a large family, it may be at the top of your list. Symmetrical layouts, inside and out, accent the proportions of the home. You can expect to see decorative doorways, majestic columns, and pitched roofs. If your interior design preferences include antique wood, crown molding, cast iron lamps, and gracious chandeliers, you will enjoy this style.

  • Craftsman
Possible the most prevalent style in Ohio, craftsman architecture leans toward covered porches, exposed rafter tails extending the trusses beyond the perimeter walls, overhanging eaves, and dormers. The exterior of the home is generally a muted brown or green. You'll find fireplaces, bench seats in the living room, exposed beam ceilings, and dedicated dining rooms. If you like reading nooks with cozy cushions, earth tones, and natural lighting, look for a craftsman home.

  • Modern
The sleek lines of metal, concrete, and glass push more traditional styles back into the 20th century in favor of the conveniences technological advances have brought us. The intricate designs of the past give way to minimalist lifestyles. Open layouts maximize space for families and entertaining, making this style a popular choice for both young families and empty nesters that opt to downsize. The appropriate decor would include geometric lines, neutral paint, darker contrasting tones, and periodic pops of color.

  • Farmhouse
This style of architecture includes a no-frills floor plan with a rectangular-shaped foundation. You'll see simple lines with tall windows and spacious porches that may wrap around the house. You may see wood siding or metal roofs reminiscent of a classic barn. The home's interior will likely be decorated in neutral color schemes with the relaxed comfort of a classic farm but with sophisticated accents such as granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.

  • Bungalow
Large homes aren't for everyone, and a popular choice for both young professionals and older couples is the bungalow. This option combines many of the design features of traditional craftsman homes, such as dormer windows to make the roof lines more interesting or verandas similar to larger porches. They generally consist of one story but may have a partial second story to add space. Interior paint will often be in muted greens, creams, and tans. You may find built-in shelves to maximize storage options in small spaces. You will almost certainly find a fireplace to warm the living room. Colorful area rugs will accent gleaming hardwood floors.

Of course, there are many more architectural styles with interiors to match. You may have had a few more catch your eye as you scrolled through our website. We certainly hope so! No matter what type of home captures your interest, our real estate professionals are here to help you find it. Contact us when you're ready to start shopping.
