Buying Rather Than Building - Haring Realty

To build or buy? That's one of the first questions every homebuyer asks themselves before making a decision. Both choices offer plenty of benefits and plenty of challenges. Our REALTORS® know it's a difficult choice, but we also know that in most cases, buying a home is the better choice that offers far more advantages than drawbacks. As you consider your options, there are five key advantages every homebuyer should consider.

  1. Existing Homes Are Move-In Ready
    The vast majority of existing homes are sold in move-in-ready condition. In most cases, the work that needs to be done is more of a "want" than a "need." For instance, you may want to repaint a room or change the flooring, but you don't need to do it immediately. This gives you time to thoroughly consider your options, find a contractor to perform the work, etc.

  2. Established Landscaping
    When you buy an existing home, the landscaping has already had a chance to mature. This means tall trees in the yard for shade, swingsets, and treehouses. Other landscaping, such as grass, shrubs, flowerbeds, etc., are also established, meaning less time, money, and effort to get the yard in shape. Similarly, the landscaping around the neighborhood is already mature. This can make the community feel more comfortable and inviting. It's also more appealing to homebuyers, which can mean higher property values as the landscaping continues to mature. 

  3. Established Neighborhood
    When you buy existing Bucyrus homes for sale, it's a safe bet that the neighbors have been there for a while. They know each other and often look out for one another. It also means that you can see exactly how the neighbors take care of their property to determine whether it's a neighborhood you want to join. In most cases, a well-maintained neighborhood today will mean a well-maintained neighborhood down the road.

  4. Location, Location, Location
    Established homes are usually near established shopping centers, schools, bike paths, recreation, healthcare providers, employment opportunities, etc. There is no need to wonder what someone will build next door or down the street because it's already there for you to see. Further, looking around the area can help determine whether the features and offerings will enhance your comfort and make the home an ideal community for you to retire, raise a family, and commute.

  5. Buying is Cheaper Than Building
    Buying a home is considerably less expensive than building one from scratch. It means you don't have to worry about hiring an architect, buying land, securing permits, or headaches from supply/labor shortages in the construction industry. Of course, buying a home means you can't customize everything you want right away. But, it doesn't mean you can't customize it later. In fact, buying a home and renovating it down the road will give you more freedom and flexibility to customize the home as your needs and desires evolve.
