World Blood Donor Day: Where to Donate Around Mansfield

What started as an attempt to raise awareness for the growing demand for clean, safe blood has blossomed into an annual event that acknowledges the many selfless individuals who donate blood while also spreading education about the many crucial benefits of each blood donation provides.

A single blood donation can save up to three people's lives. Believe it or not, the world is in short supply of viable blood donations. Countless individuals around the world depend on blood donations to restore their health. How are blood donations used?

Did you know that every two seconds, a patient in the United States needs a blood donation? Unfortunately, blood cannot be manufactured artificially; it must come voluntarily from a human donor. What makes matters worse is that over 60 percent of the population is ineligible to donate blood. Voluntary, unpaid blood donations actually make up 80-90 percent of the blood supply in nearly 80 of the world's countries. It's no exaggeration to say that every single blood donation plays a vital role in preserving life around the world.
Who can donate blood? Donors must be aged 17 or older, with many states allowing 16 year-olds the opportunity to donate with parental permission. These individuals can donate once every 8 to 16 weeks which is the timeframe needed for the body to replenish the red blood cells.
